THREE persons are currently hospitalised following an accident on the Number 52 Public Road early Monday morning.

Those injured have been identified as driver, Calvin Johnson, 19; Shalindar Deonauth, 22, and Jimmy King 19, who suffered a fractured left foot. The young men are all from Number 50 Village on the Corentyne Coast.  According to information received, the motor car bearing registration number PTT 4102 was proceeding north along the western side of the road at a fast pace, when the driver reportedly lost control while trying to manoeuver a pothole and crashed into a utility pole along the northern side of the roadway.

The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to wrap around the pole and broke it in half. Many persons who rushed to the scene and rendered assistance stated it was a “miracle” the occupants survived given the damage done to the car. After the trio was rescued and taken to the hospital, public-spirited citizens assisted relatives in moving the car. The vehicle was removed from the scene with half of the utility pole still protruding from the middle of the car. A breathalyser test done on the driver indicated he was above the legal limit. An investigation into the accident is presently active.
