Kaikan Miner charged with trafficking in narcotics

36-year-old Kaikan Miner, Sandro DaSilva, was, on February 25, 2020, brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, charged with trafficking in narcotics.

The charge alleged that, on Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Shadow Creek, Kaikan Village, region 7, DaSilva was found with narcotics, that weighed 19.9 grams, for the purpose of trafficking.

DaSilva pleaded not guilty.

It was mentioned to the court by the prosecutor that, on Sunday, February 23, 2020, between 14:00 and 14:45 hours, police, at Kaikan, were on duty at the Shadow Creek, when they saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner, holding a white salt bag in his hand. The police approached the defendant and searched his person where nothing of evidential value was found. The police then proceeded to search the defendant’s bag where they found a quantity of leaves, stems and seeds, suspected to be cannabis. The defendant was arrested and taken to Kaikan Police Station.

The prosecutor recommended that bail be denied.

DaSilva was granted $70,000 bail and was ordered by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to report to the Kaikan Police Station every fortnight, on a Friday, at 09:00 hours until the matter is completed.

This matter was adjourned until Monday, March 16, 2020.
