Fireworks expected as third round bowls off today

FOLLOWING two exciting rounds of Under-15 cricket in the ongoing Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Dave’s West Indian Imports inter-county, round three promises to be a battle of the braves as Demerara tackle President’s XI while Essequibo lock horns with the unbeaten Berbice today.

Demerara vs President’s XI at Bourda
Demerara will be wary of their opponents, President’s XI, who, despite being hammered by Berbice in Round 1, managed to turn their fortunes around in the second round by handing Essequibo a sound 8-wicket thrashing.

Led by skipper Stephon Sankar, who played an MVP match-winning role with bat and ball against the Essequibians, President’s XI seem to have found their mojo following their last game.

Should Demerara look to relegate the Sankar-led side back to losing ways, it will take a ton of work from their batsmen, who failed terribly in the previous encounter against Berbice; losing by 76 runs in a lopsided affair.

With an in-form batting line-up that includes spinner Ali Budhoo, Sankar’s team will be entering Round 3 with their tails up while Demerara will need to tap into their talent in order to avoid a successive loss.

Essequibo vs Berbice at Lusignan ground
Rampertab Ramnauth, Berbice captain is in spectacular batting form, following up his first game half-century with a match-winning 27 against a woeful Demerara side warming up for today’s clash against the Cinderella County.

Spin showed up the Essequibo batsmen in the last game as all-rounder Adesh Das showed grit with two wickets and 46 runs but was unable to save his team. Should Essequibo chalk up a win today, they will need to overcome Berbice’s duo of Salim Khan and Matthew Pottaya; who dominated with the ball.

With today’s round being the penultimate one before Saturday’s final, all four teams will be keen on bringing out their A-Game come today, when action bowls off at 09:00hrs at both venues. (Clifton Ross)
