Holder, Harding fire Pride to crushing innings victory

BASSETERRE, St Kitts, (CMC) – New-ball fast bowlers Chemar Holder and Keon Harding sparked a stunning Leeward Islands Hurricanes collapse as Barbados Pride stormed to an emphatic innings and 81-run victory inside three days of their fourth round contest here Sunday.

Starting Sunday’s penultimate day at Warner Park on 10 without loss and still needing a further 207 runs to make Pride bat again, Hurricanes failed to withstand a devastating assault from Holder and Harding who snached five wickets between them, and crashed to 136 all out in their second innings.

Bowling with pace and accuracy, Holder finished with three for 33 and while Harding claimed two for 27, spells which reduced the hosts to 24 for five at one stage.
Colin Archibald, better known for his left-arm seam, rescued pride for Hurricanes with a whirlwind 53 off 32 deliveries while left-hander Amir Jangoo struck 42, but neither innings could avert the inevitable result especially with the damage already done.

Holder struck in the morning’s first over with no runs added to the overnight score, removing the left-hander Powell to a catch at gully by substitute Justin Greaves.
With seven runs added, Holder accounted for the other opener Montcin Hodge for four, the right-hander flirting with a good length delivery and nicking a catch behind to wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich.

When Devon Thomas shouldered arms and lost his off-stump to Harding for four 14 balls later, Hurricanes were in strife at 20 for three.
Captain Jahmar Hamilton lasted two balls for his one while Rahkeem Cornwall got a first-ball ‘duck’ but Jangoo halted the slide by posting 37 for the sixth wicket with Jaison Peters (18).

Medium pacer Kevin Stoute broke the stand with the last ball before lunch when Peters edged a slash at a wide long hop, leaving Hurricanes on 61 for six at the break.
The end for Hurricanes appeared imminent when Terrance Warde (2) perished after the interval at 70 for seven but Archibald launched a brazen counter-attack to temporarily stun the visitors.

He smashed four fours and four sixes, adding 62 for the ninth wicket with the patient Jangoo, who faced 89 balls and struck three fours and a six in just over 2-½ hours.
A protracted rain break then halted Hurricanes’ revival at 130 for seven but once play resumed, the last three wickets fell for six runs with debutant left-arm spinner Camarie Boyce taking two.
