THE opening ceremony for the “Hit it for 50” Schools Windball Cricket competition is set for this morning at the National Gymnasium in Georgetown.
According to information from the organisers, Chairman of the Forbes Burnham Foundation, Vincent Alexander, and Director of Sport, Christopher Jones, will join officials of the AL Sport and Tour Promotions at the ceremony, which is scheduled to start at 10:45hrs.
Several of the schools which will compete from today have had practice matches.
Leading up to the clash, Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary windball cricketers were able to defeat Charlestown Secondary in a female battle. Batting first in the clash, Vreed-en-Hoop raced to 90-1 with Tricia Singh leading the attack with 52.
Charlestown could not match Singh’s score and fell for 51-4. Brower finished with 20.
Bowling for Vreed-en-Hoop, Singh took 2-6.
In another clash, East Ruimveldt Secondary were able to defeat the females from School of the Nations.
Nations batted first and scored 63-1 with Y. Noble hitting 22. East Ruimveldt replied with 64-1, with Shania Kingston hitting 28.
Richard Ishmael Secondary were able to muscle past Soesdyke Secondary when they battled. Soesdyke batted first and scored 70-1, with A. David hitting 30, while Richard Ishmael replied with 72-0.
Camille’s Academy also claimed a victory batting second. After K. London had scorched the Gymnasium with an aggressive 61 to lead Tucville Secondary to 81-1, the eventual winners replied with 84-1. Shani Jackson led the way with 26.
Camille’s Academy also claimed a victory in the male competition. School of the Nations batted first and scored 42-3 (K. Moonsammy 15), while Camille’s Academy replied with 47-0 (R. Blair 28)
In another male clash, Queenstown Secondary batted first and reached 58-1 with John Warrell hitting 27, but Tucville Secondary overhauled the score to finish at 61-0. Dwayne Jones led the attack with 36.
Meanwhile, Brickdam Secondary were able to defeat Goed Fortuin in their clash. Goed Fortuin batted first and scored 69-2 before Brickdam replied with 71-2.
Soesdyke Secondary male team, led by E. Patterson won their clash batting first. Soesdyke posted 90 without loss with Patterson hitting 53, while Vreed-en-Hoop were routed for 60-1. Amar Dhaniram scored 28.
Zeeburg Secondary won the girls’ final last year, while in the male battle, the Mae’s School was crowned champions of 2019.
