THE Ministry of Social Protection, through the Chartered Engineering Maintenance & Management Solutions Incorporated (CREMMS), will be facilitating a ten-day comprehensive training programme for Steam Boiler Examiners. The training is slated to begin on Tuesday, February, 04 2020, and will be conducted at the Herdmanston Lodge.
The Ministry, through a press release, explained that it had decided to launch the initiative because, “it came about to satisfy a long felt need to develop a core of competent Steam Boilers Examiners who, for many reasons, seem to be rare breed of professionals these days.
Working with Steam Boilers can be challenging, and if the right conditions are not in place, including those for their examination and certification, the consequences can be catastrophic. Hence the need for the training which can help to obviate disasters.”
The training will be spearheaded and facilitated by CREMMS Inc. which is an Organisation registered in Guyana, and headed by Guyanese who operate both in Guyana and the United States of America.
At the helm of CREMMS Inc. are Dr. Rudolph Prince who specializes in Chemical Engineering and Conrad D. Philander who also is a Chemical Engineer. They will be supported by Sidney Robinson who is a Steam Boilers Expert and Earl Julian.
On Monday morning, the facilitators for the training, led by Dr. Rudolph Prince, paid a courtesy call on the Hon. Mr. Keith Scott, Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection and Mr. Charles Ogle, Chief Labour Officer.
The industrial steam boilers are of different types and they are classified based on a number of characteristics. These include the type of circulation, type of firing, type of fuel, and arrangement of the vessel. Based on the type of firing, the major types include Natural Circulation Boilers, Zero Circulation Boilers, and Forced Circulation Boilers. Based on the type of firing, the steam boilers include incinerators, Stoker-fired Boilers, Cyclone-fired Boilers, Down Shot-fired Boilers, and Pulverized Coal-fired Boilers.
Pressure Vessels must be examined at regular intervals by an Authorised Examiner or MOM-authorised boiler inspector, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
