Minister of State, Mrs. Dawn Hastings-Williams on Thursday handed over a sharpener with cover and expanded controls to Toshao Romeo Smith for the Karrau Village’s sawmill.
The sharpener, which costs $855,000 was requested by the Toshao in November and Minister Hastings-Williams had committed to fulfilling the request. Toshao Smith, in brief remarks, said that the residents are grateful for the equipment since it will not only help in creating employment but will also assist in reducing the cost to build their homes.

“We would like to thank you for this sharpener. It is a very important piece of equipment for the sawmill that we have in Karrau Village. Because we didn’t have this equipment, we weren’t really able to work but once we have this, it will provide employment, cheaper housing materials and will overall be a good to the community. So, we are all happy for this and we will ensure that it is used for the purpose it is intended so that the community can benefit,” Mr. Smith said.
