PRESIDENT of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA), Lawrence Simon, recently handed over a new Spalding regulation-size backboard to the Christianburg-Wismar Secondary School for use in an upcoming basketball programme which the association intends to roll out soon.

Mr Simon in an invited comment told Chronicle Sport: “It’s collaboration with LABA, Brusches Classic and Think Green, basically to what we would have discussed before, to enhance basketball within the schools and also to support our clinic that we propose to launch soon, aimed at resuscitating female basketball in the secondary schools.”

The basketball equipment was handed over to assistant coach and teacher of the school, Mr Rono Stephens, in the presence of other staff and students of the school.

The LABA official indicated, “This is the start, the first of many. As we get resources we will work along with the Ministry of Education to develop basketball within the school system.”

Simon said, “We gave them a Spalding complete, adjustable, regulation-size, all-weather backboard combo, which includes the stanchion, the ring the backboard etc. Also we gave them basketballs to start the (women’s) programme.”
