STENA Drilling Company and Falcon Logistics, in fulfilling their corporate social responsibility, on Friday, donated $5M to the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre to boost its services.

The presentation was held at the centre’s Carmichael Street location.
Administrator of the Ptolemy Reid’s Rehabilitation Centre, Cynthia Massay, thanked the companies for the kind gesture.

Falcon Logistics is a Guyanese-owned company and its partnership with Stena Drilling has resulted in the assistance for the rehabilitation centre.

She said Stena Drilling company’s logo (Care, Innovation and Performance) incorporates its desire to assist the rehabilitation centre with its development.
Stena Drilling Rig Manager, Nick Benzie, said that, during the Christmas holiday, the company had a raffle where it raised monies on the ship from the crew members, and the company’s head office agreed to match the amount raised.

“And thanks to our friends at Falcon, they also agreed that they would match that so we will present a cheque of $5M Guyanese dollars,” he said.
Meanwhile, he explained that the company is responsible for drilling the hole that ExxonMobil needs for oil wells offshore.

“We do all the work before the oil is loaded onto the ships, we create the wells, basically,” he said.
Benzie said the company strongly supports the local communities in which it operates.
“We are very conscious of the effect we can have on the local communities; we want to be successful and we want to share that success with the people of Guyana. We support as much local businesses as we can; we also employ locals to work on our rigs as well, because they have a great potential to create a fantastic career in the oil industry,” the rig manager said.

He said the oil industry in Guyana is exploding exponentially and there is much potential for growth since it is a completely new industry to country.
