ONE of four suspects is in police custody for the murder of a fisherman at Coldingen, East Coast Demerara whose body was found Saturday night.

Dead is Mukesh Mangar, 27, called ‘Paul’ of Coldingen Squatting Area, ECD. Relatives believe that he was attacked and killed during a robbery.

Mangra’s body was transported to the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour, awaiting an autopsy as police continue their investigations. Reports indicate that on Saturday between 19:45hrs and 20:30hrs, a 23-year-old painter of Coldingen, ECD, was riding his bicycle south along the Coldingen road on his way home when he saw the lifeless body of Mangra lying on the same road.

The police were contacted and Mangra was discovered with two stab wounds to the right and left side abdomen. Police also found a knife almost fifty feet away from his body. His 60-year-old mother, Lillowattie Samaroo, called “Barbara” said her son left home on January 11 to head out at sea to fish and was due to return on Sunday. The mother reportedly told the police that her now-dead son had left their home on January 11, 2020, to work at sea. She believes that he might have been killed during a robbery since he would collect money from his boss when he is off the sea.
