SOME 35 officers of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) have been promoted with effect from January 01, 2020. A release said the promotion was done in accordance with Part III, Section 16 of the Defence Act 15:01 of 1977.

The announcement was made by Chief of Staff, Brigadier, Patrick West, after approval was given by President and Commander-in-Chief, David Granger.
Additionally, another 783 other ranks also received promotions.

These advancements ranged from Substantive Warrant Officer Class One, Acting Warrant Officer Class One, Substantive Warrant Officer Class Two, Acting Warrant Officer Class Two, Technical Warrant Officer, Local Warrant Officer Class Two, Substantive Staff Sergeant, Acting Staff Sergeant, Local Staff Sergeant, Substantive Staff Sergeant, Acting Sergeant, Local Sergeant, Substantive Corporal, Acting Corporal/Substantive Corporal, Acting Corporal, Substantive Lance Corporal, Acting Lance Corporal/Substantive Lance Corporal to Acting Lance Corporal.

For the Coast Guard, the promotions included Substantive Fleet Chief Petty Officer, Substantive Senior Petty Officer, Acting Senior Petty Officer, Substantive Petty Officer, Acting Petty Officer, Substantive Leading Rating, Acting Leading Rating, Substantive Able Rating and Acting Able Rating.

Guyana People’s Militia promotions comprised of Acting Staff Sergeant, Substantive Sergeant, Substantive Corporal, Acting Corporal, Substantive Lance Corporal and Acting Lance Corporal.
