A FIRE of unknown  origin completely destroyed a two-storied wooden house at Sheveh Street, Portuguese Quarters, Port Mourant, around 18:15 hrs on Friday.

A lone occupant, who was identified as “Sherry”, was not at home at the time of the blaze.

Neighbours said Sherry had left about 15 minutes prior to go to Rose Hall Town when the fire ripped through the house.

Guyana Chronicle was told that Sherry does not work and would solicit help from people in the community.

Firefighters from the Rose Hall Town Station responded shortly after but had to leave to refill their tank with water. They returned a few minutes later and prevented the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
