Anthony Adams XI reach 80 for 2 on rain-affected day

RAIN forced the greater part of the opening day’s play in the first Regional 4-day practice match at the Guyana National Stadium to be subjected to a number of inspections by the umpires. Following their final check at 14:30hrs, they decided play would commence at 15:00hrs.

At stumps, Anthony Adams’ XI had reached 80 for 2 from 34 overs against Leon Johnson’s XI, heading into day two, reeling from a double-strike by veteran leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, who claimed both wickets in the only session of the day.

Heading into the second day, Tevin Imlach, the former Windies U-19 player was not out on 23 off 97 balls and will be looking to carry on with night-watchman Niall Smith.

Imlach stroked just one boundary while his opening partner Raymond Perez crunched three eye-catching fours as he chalked up 24 off 48 balls.

When Perez fell to Bishoo, Adams XI were 47 for 1 before Kemol Savory and Imlach teamed up to help stabilise the innings.

Guyana Jaguars’ newest addition, Savory, was the other batsman to fall  to  Bishoo a few overs before stumps.

The left-hander mirrored an innings almost similar to that of Perez, as he too soaked up 48 balls and hit 3 fours but managed only 18.

Bishoo’s return to Jaguars colours was a good sign for the Leon Johnson’s XI. The 34-year-old was wily in his approach as he outfoxed his two victims in Perez and Savory, to end with opening day figures of 2-26 from 10 overs.

Action on day two is now set to start at 09:00hrs, weather permitting. (Clifton Ross)
