IT is now seven long months since bandits attacked popular Albouystown businesswoman, Nalinie Persaud, called ‘Nalo’ at her James Street residence. The police are yet to make an arrest.
A senior police detective told the Guyana Chronicle on Christmas Eve that Persaud’s murder investigation is still open and continues.
The police said that on May 2, 2019, two of the bandits who were armed with handguns, had attacked the 44-year-old woman and when they escaped, the businesswoman’s lifeless body was discovered with a rope, which was used to strangle her, tied around her neck.
The police confirmed that cash and jewellery were carted off by the bandits who ransacked the premises. They gained entry by removing a board from the northern wall of the lower flat of the house.
The victim’s husband was assaulted and taken out of the bedroom into the lower flat of the premises, which housed a grocery shop, where he was bound to a chair and duct-taped.
An autopsy conducted on the body of the businesswoman revealed that her death was due to compression to the neck and blunt trauma to the head.
