– with annual Christmas Tree light-up, fete
SQUEALS of delight filled the air Sunday night as Essequibo businessman Ganesh Jaigobin threw on the switch, causing the giant well-decorated Christmas Tree outside his premises in downtown Anna Regina to come alive with festive lights.
The squeals came from the scores of children gathered outside, expressly for the light-up, and to partake in the sumptuous spread he lays out every year come Christmastime.
What made the event all the more exciting was the count-down before the switch was thrown, and the appearance of such Christmassy cartoon characters as Elsa, Santa & Mrs. Claus, Barney, Spiderman and Olaf from Frozen.
According to Jaigobin, it is the sixth year the company has been lighting up and feteing the kids for Christmas.
Jaigobin is the owner of the ever-popular G & P Jaigobin & Sons Supermarket. As he told the Guyana Chronicle, the event just so happens to coincide with the company’s 11th Anniversary.
“We really want to give back to society, especially the children,” Jaigobin said, adding: “They shop all year, so we want to do something special. It is 11 years since the supermarket was opened in Anna Regina, and business has been great ever since.”
Jaigobin said the tree will remain lit until the season is over.
