OIL and Gas economies bring fame, fortune and new challenges to developing countries and criminals follow the money and new challenges arise.
With this in mind, STARR Computer has partnered with a leading international firm to provide surveillance software with artificial intelligence.
This was disclosed, on Thursday, by Mike Mohan, President of STARR Computer, during a press briefing at STARR Computer, Brickdam, Georgetown location.
The international company, Digifort Inc, is a Brazilian company that specialises in video surveillance software and video monitoring intelligence. It has two development centres: one located in Boca Raton (Florida, US) and the other one in its Corporate Headquarters in São Paulo, Brazil.
Digifort has offices and branches all around the world and it is present in more than 130 countries with its platform translated in over 18 languages.
According to Mohan, the award winning predictive surveillance software, with artificial intelligence (AI), offers law enforcement agencies, businesses and consumers, the ability to deploy modern technologies on their existing available hardware to deter, apprehend and convict criminals.
“Today, as Guyanese and stakeholders prepare for the next phase of oil production, we have three choices to deal with criminals. We can do nothing, wait to react when criminality goes on the rampage, or, be proactive with technology solutions readily available. As started almost three decades ago with the computer industry, STARR has now partnered with Digifort Inc,” Mohan said.

Arie Hornreich, vice-president of Digifort, explained and demonstrated their award-winning new software that uses artificial Intelligence (AI) deep learning analytics on big data gathering to predict criminal behaviour.
From facial biometry to “follow me sequence” on a network of surveillance cameras running on a Digifort software platform, Hornreich said this is seen more often in developed countries – cities, malls and airports.
He explained that the software offers from weapon detection to Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) and Security Drone integration to Video Synopsis (the ability to filter human images by colour, clothing, height, and other characteristics).
It also rapidly processes, detects and matches millions of faces in real time, provides 24-hour-per-day service, automating alerts and notifications as an event occurs as well as immediate insight and situational awareness.
Hornreich said the platform supports flexible deployment – including on-premise, cloud, or hybrid – and can also characterise gender, age, and sentiment.
“This enables security professionals to not only identify people on watchlists, but also build greater awareness of demographics and traffic patterns in facilities across retail, health, telecom, education, government, and other commercial markets,” he underscored.
Further, he explained that security teams are burdened with hours of monitoring, which requires extended periods of extreme concentration and attention to detail in order to identify unauthorised or unknown activity.
But, he said, with the software, security staff can be alerted in real time when persons of interest are recognised on any live camera feed, whether or not they are in view of security personnel. This includes registered persons, threats, concerns, and VIPs in authorised or unauthorised areas.
Meanwhile, Mohan explained that STARR Computer is the local integrator, Service Center and Distributor/Partner of many major manufacturers’ products, including Lenovo, HP, APC, Honeywell, Hikvision, Q-See and Epson, among others.
“We make a perfect match with Digifort software,” he said.
Several of STARR COMPUTER employees were certified by Digifort in 2018. And additional training was provided to STARR employees over the past few days. And on an on-going basis, free webinars and seminars will be conducted in STARR board room.
