A 30-year-old man who was nabbed with $15.4M worth in cannabis following a high-speed chase by officers of the Custom Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) was on Wednesday remanded to prison for drug-trafficking.
Azim Ali, called Boyo of Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Wales Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Particulars of the charge state that Ali on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at De Willem, West Coast Demerara, had 30.902 kilogrammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
CANU prosecutor Konyo Sandiford strongly objected to bail for Ali; the magistrate agreed with the prosecutor and remanded Ali to prison until January 28, 2019.
