Man on drug trafficking charge granted bail

CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Monday November 25, 2019, granted $60,000 bail to a 21-year-old man for possession of cocaine and cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Kevin Abrams appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge, when it was read to him.

It is alleged that, on November 25, 2019, at St Ignatius, Central Rupununi, he had, in his possession, 46.1 grams of marijuana and 3.4 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objection to bail and asked that conditions be attached. Mansfield told the court that, on the day in question, around 00.30hours, ranks from Lethem were on patrol duty when they made contact with Abrams. A search was conducted on his person and a quantity of leaves, seeds, stems and a whitish substance were found in his pants pocket.

Mansfield added that Abrams was arrested and later charged.
Magistrate McLennan released Abrams on $60,000 bail and ordered him to report to the Lethem police station until the matter is completed. The matter was adjourned until December 30, 2019, at the Lethem Magistrates’ Court.
