POLICE have sized an AK47 assault rifle, two handguns and a quantity ammunition in Arakaka, North West District (NWD) on Tuesday, following the arrest of three persons, after a large quantity of raw gold was stolen on Monday.

Reports indicate that four masked men armed with a rifle and handguns, robbed three men of the raw gold at Matthew’s Ridge Airstrip.

A serving member of the Joint Services has since been detained.
Acting on information gathered, police ranks from Region One intercepted a vehicle around 09:20hrs on Tuesday at Arakaka, NWD with two of the robbery suspects and conducted a search. During the search, the cops found several containers of fuel and a quantity of raw gold suspected to be part of Monday’s heist.

The suspects, a businessman and the mastermind, during interrogation, took investigators to a location and handed over two 9mm handguns with magazines; an AK47 assault rifle with a magazine; a quantity of ammunition; a Global Positioning System (GPS) device and a camouflage jacket
