– launches party office in mining town
PRESIDENTIAL Candidate of A New and United Guyana (ANUG), Ralph Ramkarran, said his party is striving to make a bigger impact on the lives of Lindeners by bringing a new and unique developmental plan to the town.
At the time, he was addressing a small group during the launch of the party’s office in Linden on Sunday.
If elected to the National Assembly, Ramkarran said ANUG, during budget preparation, will work out a developmental plan after consulting Lindeners on their needs. “What we are promising is something new and unique, something new, unique and different…a system whereby the two main parties are equally represented,” the former speaker of the National Assembly said.

As he urged Lindeners to throw their support behind ANUG, Ramkarran said a third party is needed to transform Guyana’s political landscape, and ANUG is willing to take up the mantle. He said in the past, the Alliance for Change (AFC) was that third force but in 2015, it coalesced with the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), thereby forming the APNU+AFC coalition.
This third party should not only focus on a power-gaining agenda but on how to create avenues that will bring an end to poverty, ethnic instability and corruption, the ANUG Presidential Candidate said. Without the intervention of a plan as ANUG’s, Ramkarran argued that the racial division facing the country will continue. He warned that failure to address this issue could result in only a few benefiting from the Oil and Gas Industry.
Executive Member of ANUG, Akanni Blair, in his address, said on a daily basis he is approached by Lindeners who expressed their frustration on the stagnation of development and progress in the town. The former People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Region Ten Executive told his fellow Lindeners that development will take place in the town, once ANUG secures a spot in the National Assembly.
“I am saying to you, we are on the ground, we are going to come to you, we are going to ask you for your support, we want you to join our campaign team and ensure that we in the ANUG, allow these two parties to work together,” he said. Blair said that winning the presidency is not high on ANUG’s agenda, but if it happens, the party welcomes it.
Also speaking at the launch was former Minister, Dr. Henry Jeffrey and Attorney-at-Law Timothy Jonas. ANUG’s Linden office is located at the Consumers’ Complex building and will be manned by a staff. Its office hours are 8:00hr to 16:00 hrs.
