A PREGNANT 21-year-old woman, who was battered by her reputed husband, received some timely assistance from The Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc. (HMGI) on Saturday afternoon.
The woman, Seema Bisnauth of Rampur, Corriverton East Berbice Corentyne, is eight months pregnant and is fortunate to be able to walk away from the abusive relationship after she was found in an unconscious state by her sister after suffering a beating by her husband three weeks ago.
The husband, Yadev Bisnaught, is presently on remand after being placed before the

courts. The incident occurred in September and according to Seema, it was similar to many others she suffered during the four-year marriage.
“He does normally come home drunk and want knock me every time, he does even knock we three year old son and when we try fuh ask he why or quarrel with he, he does knock we mo bad,” she said.
Seema has since moved out of the house. Due to the advanced stage of her pregnancy and the injuries she received, she cannot provide for herself nor is her family in a financial state to provide for her needs.
As such, the Humanitarian Mission reached out and donated maternity and baby supplies to Seema to help her as she looks to welcome her second child in a few weeks’ time.
Moved to tears of joy, the young woman thanked the organisation for the donation, noting that she was worried about where she would have been able to get the items she needed to go to hospital, as well as those for the newborn.
Public Relations Officer of The Humanitarian Mission Inc., Mahendra Dass Nandalall, said that the Mission has a zero tolerance policy as it relates to all forms of abuse, especially domestic violence.
He stated that after the organisation learnt of the young woman’s bravery in reporting the matter and helping to get the abusive husband behind bars, they reached out to commend her and learnt of her plight, after which they sprang into action to give her some assistance.
“We know the items we are giving here today through our donors both locally and internationally will not solve all the problems for Ms. Seema, but we hope others can come on board and assist as well, as she has a long way to go especially with two children to care for and no income,” he said.
F and I Customs Brokerage Services of Corriverton also donated a supply of diapers and baby wipes to the expecting mother.
