IN response to rising demand for construction materials, BK Quarries Incorporated is among many businesses expanding their capabilities through capital investment.
A report from the Department of Public Information (DPI) said the company has added a new German Plant, a new fleet of trucks and excavators to meet and satisfy the local demand for stone and eliminate the need for imports.

A DPI release said that as the company continues to upgrade its facilities at the Teperu-Itabu quarry, the plan is to increase production to 100,000 tonnes of stone aggregate and boulders per month.

Delivering the feature address at a reception held at BK Headquarters on Friday evening, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo congratulated the Managing-Director of the BK Group of Companies, Brian Tiwarie, on the recent expansion of the company’s existing fleet of equipment.
The prime minister commended the BK Group for its continued confidence in the country’s economy.

He stated, “The investment you see here is an investment of a patriotic businessman; he knows his cooperative role, he will make as much as he injects into the economy and in this regard… BK is a symbol — a true corporate citizen who believes in his country and who has confidence in his government.”

Noting the wide range of business activities in which the BK group is involved – from quarrying to tourism and aviation – the prime minister said: “He [Brian Tiwarie] has invested as a businessman in the economy of his country… and he has not held back.”
Director-General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon, in his congratulatory remarks said the company had invested over US$6M in 2018 and plans to invest a further US$4M for 2019.

“This confident investing in Guyana has been the hallmark of the company, as evidenced by the massive investment we see here. It continues to upgrade its facilities in the Teperu-Itabu Quarry to increase production,” Harmon explained.

Some of the new trucks added to the BK fleet.

The director-general stated that the arrival of the new vehicles “marks not just an investment in a company, but a recognition that the future of Guyana is in safe hands under His Excellency President David Granger’s administration and the government of Guyana.”

Also attending the reception was wife of the prime minister Sita Nagamootoo, along with several ministers of government, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the private sector, among others.
