THE first and second batches of Surinamese competitors arrived ahead of this weekend’s 1320 Heat drag race event.

According to information, three cars came on the first ship from Suriname on Thursday with four more arriving yesterday morning.

The club is still awaiting the third set which should have arrived late yesterday afternoon.
GMR&SC vice-president Hansraj Singh confirmed the Surinamese made their way to Guyana between Thursday and Friday saying, “We had noticed that some drivers were coming.”

“A few of them checked in with our offices to get event information and the remaining set should arrive this evening (Friday). After tonight, we will be better able to give you a count of how many participating drivers we have.”
Meanwhile just over 30 local competitors had signed onto the event up to press time last evening.

According to the club, these registered drivers do not yet include the Surinamese as they intend to register as a group.
Registration, the GMR&SC vice-president noted will close this evening as there will be none done on the day.

Admission to tomorrow’s event stands at $1 000 for adults and $500 for children.
Race-time is 10:00hrs.
