Man strangled during Church St. scuffle

POLICE are investigating the murder of a man who, up to press time, was unidentified. He was allegedly killed by a 24- year-old male of A Field Sophia who is in police custody assisting with the investigation.

The body of the man, of African descent, is clad in a pair of short camouflage pants, blue jersey and a pair of fawn Clarks. Police said the killing occurred on Friday about 21:38hrs on Church Street, Queenstown.

According to a security guard, the suspect and the now deceased were seen scuffling and the suspect wrapped a belt around the victim’s neck and strangled him; he (suspect) was apprehended by public- spirited citizens and handed over to the police. The Guyana Police Force is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body which is presently at the Lyken’s Funeral Home.
