GUYANA’s current number one ranked cyclist, Briton John, is an ounce of gold richer after he won the lucrative annual Kadir Mohamed Memorial Cycling road race, yesterday morning.

Some of the country’s top cyclists battled through a gruelling 80-miler, which started and ended at Homestretch Avenue after proceeding to Dora on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway and back.
Briton John stormed to the finish line in three hours, 18 minutes and 23 seconds to beat Michael Anthony (second place) and defending champion, Jamaul John (third).
Walter Grant-Stuart ended in fourth position, followed by Jornel Yearwood, Andrew Hicks, Christopher Griffith and Marcus Keeler.
Jamaul John, Deeraj Garbarran and Balram Narine finished with two sprint prizes each while Briton John, Anthony, Grant-Stuart and Keeler had one apiece.

JUNIOR BATTLE

Meanwhile, Berbician Ajay Gopilall continued his good form with a victory in the Junior category of the eighth annual event.
He finished his ride in a time of three hours, 22 minutes and 30 seconds. Jason Seenarine and Jason Sampson finished second and third respectively.

Lear Nunes stormed to victory in the veteran U-45 division. He finished in three hours, 29 minutes and 47 second, which placed him ahead of Paul Choo-Wee-Nam, Kwame Ridley and Junior Niles.

In the veteran over 45 event, Ian Jackson was the first across the finish line. He won ahead of Nigel London and Oliver Young.
Mario Washington, who finished ahead of David Hicks, Steven Bhim Shing and Sherwin Sampson respectively, won the Juvenile’s battle. Meanwhile, in the mountain bike race, Ozia McCullay won ahead of Jamal Kapil and Jermain Jordon.
