Andrew Lyght has been in top form in the GCA-NBS Second Division competition.

A patient half century by Andrew Lyght Jr. propelled the Police Sports Club to a 14-run victory against home team, the Everest Cricket Club, one of their strongest opponents in Group B, in the New Building Society (NBS) 40-Over Second Division Cricket tournament on Saturday.

Both teams had stamped their authority on the competition, the week prior, with emphatic victories which had seen four centuries (two from each side) scored.
Replicating that feat against better bowling was near impossible in their second clash; Lyght, however, managed to hold down his end and work his way up to a match-winning 91 (2x4s, 3x6s) after Police had batted first in a 35-over affair.

The right-handed opener had five different partners. But only fellow century maker in Police’s opening clash, Kemol Savory (26 2x4s) and Pernell London were able to lend valuable support.

London was key towards the end as his positive strokeplay propelled him to a quick 23 (2x4s) not out.

Although Lyght played a few shots in the latter stages of his innings, it was not enough to carry him to three figures.
His wicket fell off the last ball of the innings, caught at midwicket after he had skied a ball attempting a big hit, which left Police on 189-5 from their allotted overs.

Everest needed to score under 5.5 runs per over to win the clash. However, except for a fighting 55 (5x4s, 2x6s) from the in-form Amir Khan, 38 from opener Saheed Mohamed (3x4s, 1×6) and 27 (2x4s, 1×6) from middle-order batsman, Ronaldo Renee, none of the other batsmen were able to weather the storm, which resulted in them succumbing for 175 in 33.1 overs.

Leg-spinner Vishal Jaigobin, who had Mohamed caught and bowled, finished with 3-47 from seven overs, while D. LaRose and Savory finished with two wickets each.
