President David Granger is saddened at the death of Lady Lois Winifred Ramphal (née King), wife of Sir Shridath Ramphal, O.E.

His condolences were offered in a release from the Ministry of the Presidency on Monday, which stated: “Undoubtedly, she would have served as a tower of strength and support during their 70 years of marriage and would have immensely contributed to the invaluable service her husband has provided to Guyana and the world. President Granger expresses heartfelt sympathy to Sir Shridath Ramphal, their children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends.”

Sir Shridath Ramphal, O.E. was the second Commonwealth Secretary-General and Guyana’s Foreign Minister from 1972 to 1975.

He married Lois, a nurse he met while studying in London, in 1951. They have four children: Two sons and two daughters.
