Situation at Region Two RDC very disappointing

Dear Editor,

THE Kaieteur News of Wednesday, 11th September, 2019 on page 16,carried an article under the caption, ‘Friction in Region Two reaches boiling point, REO accused of assaulting Vice Chairman.’

Well, I like many others would not be surprised, I was not there, the animosity that has long existed between the two parties, although I am not certain about the reason or reasons, but I know for sure that the relationship between the Regional Executive Officer (REO) and the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) or part of the council was not in the interest of the people of this region. I attended three consecutive meetings of the R.D.C. as a member of the public and what I saw and heard was disappointing to say the least;consequently, I stopped going to those meetings because it was a waste of time. The question is, why the situation had to meet boiling point. I had written at least two letters to the editors of the major daily newspapers; I am not sure what was done or if anything was done, but by and large the situation has worsened to a point where it is now.

I am not pronouncing on who is innocent or guilty, but the system as it is currently has failed us big time. I served as a regional councillor for seven consecutive years during the tenure of two regional chairmen and about four REOs I am grossly disappointed at what we are witnessing now.

Regards
Archie W. Cordis.
