– to participate in annual ‘Women’s’ Conference

HER Imperial Highness, Princess Ariana Austin Makonnen of Ethiopia will be visiting Guyana as a guest speaker of the 3rd Annual Women’s Leadership and Business Conference, ‘PowHERful: Transition from Inspiration to Action’.

The two-day event, billed for September 18 and 19 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, was announced by WeLead Caribbean, a non-profit organisation aiming to provide comprehensive support for women’s development and business and philanthropy in Guyana and throughout the Caribbean.

The Princess will deliver a speech on cultural entrepreneurship, which would be followed by a question-and-answer segment.

“Princess Ariana is a philanthropist and entrepreneur with invaluable experience and knowledge to be shared at this year’s conference. We are honoured to have her, and we look forward to learning from her,” President of WeLead Caribbean Abbigale Loncke has said.

Princess Ariana Makonnen was born on January 6, 1984 to an American father and Guyanese mother. She is a member of the Ethiopian imperial family, and the House of Solomon through her marriage to Prince Joel Dawit Makonnen, the great-grandson of Emperor Haile Selassie I.

Her grandfather was former Georgetown Mayor, John Meredith Ford, and she began her career as a teacher and freelance journalist in Paris, France. She currently serves as Goodwill Ambassador of Friends of Guyana, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting education, cultural and environmental programmes in and about Guyana, and is a graduate of Harvard University.

Nicholas, of The Nico Consulting/Girls Inc; Jacquelyn Shipe of Global Ties Alabama; Maria Cordova Sanchez of ED Challenge; Latoya Blackwood of IPublish Consultancy; Sharon Lalljee-Richard, of Heal Guyana; and Dr. Patricee Douglas, of SRHR Adventures.
