Child dies following Berbice accident

Moments after he concluded his first week at the Savannah Park Nursery school in Berbice, a 3-year old child was struck down by a car while he crossed the roadway.

Dominic Tyler Sulker of Lot 13 Islington , East Bank Berbice and 49 Stanleytown , New Amsterdam, Berbice succumbed to his injuries following the accident.

According to  police reports, at about 12:40 hrs on Friday, the child was on the western side of the road , whilst his mother, Cyntia Mc Kenzie Sulker, was at the opposite end, calling the minor towards her.

As the child was proceeding across the road , he ran into the path of hire car  HC 9655, which was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road allegedly at a fast rate of speed.

As a result, the car collided with the child, and following the impact , the three year old catapulted into the air before landing several feet away.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital before being transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. However, he died before reaching that health institution.

Following the incident, Cynthia McKenzie Sulker recalled that when she picked  up her son, he seemed lifeless.

She first attempted to resuscitate him  by soaking his head with some water prior  to taking him to the hospital.

At the hospital, he was revived and was given oxygen .

The grieving mother, who has a younger daughter, explained that her son was taken to the x-ray department and lost consciousness and had to be resuscitated again.

After medical personnel stabilized him , he was being transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital. But, he died minutes before arriving at Abary, West Coast Berbice.

Following the accident, the driver, whose car ended-up in a nearby trench, was arrested by police. He remains in custody.
