THE Department of Education in the Mahaica-Berbice Region, on Monday, hosted a brunch for 50 retired teachers at the Latchmansingh Primary School on the West Coast of Berbice.
In offering brief remarks, Minister of Education, Dr Nicolette Henry, told the retirees that Guyana is a better place because of the service they have given to their country. She said she personally, the Ministry of Education and the Government of Guyana are eternally grateful for such selfless service.

She called on the Region’s Department of Education and the Retirees to work in ensuring greater collaboration between the two parties. Dr Henry said that the wealth of knowledge that they (retirees) possess can only assist with the development of the education sector.
Outside of the aforementioned, she said that such exercises are good since in this case, it brought together individuals who may not have seen each other for some time. Minister Henry said the event is the Ministry of Education’s way of saying thank you for the services you provided to this country.

There was also a presentation done by Retired Chief Education Officer, Ms Geneveive Whyte-Nedd. The event was also attended by the Regional Education Officer (REdO) Ms Dion Lewis-Clarke and other education officials.
