PAIWOMAK Warriors male and female teams registered wins against Titans United and Strikers FC in the first leg of their semi-final clashes in the Rupununi Football Association Champions League on Sunday in Annai.
On Saturday, Guyana Rush Saints also claimed a double victory, when their male and female teams got past the Kanuku Harpies (3-0) and Flash FC (1-0) respectively.
The eight teams will now play the return leg of the semi-finals this weekend with the aggregate winners advancing to the male and female finals.
HARDING’S HAT-TRICK
In Sunday’s clashes, Von Harding fired in a hat-trick to lead the Warriors’ male team over Titans United. Harding scored in the 6th, 57th and 74th minutes.

Stephen Glasgow in the 71st minute and Garville Daniels in the 87th minute also found the back of the net for the winners.
Regis James opened the scoring in the 65th minute for Titans (who replaced banned defending champion Tabatinga Football Club in the final four).
In the 67th minute Ben Realize tied the game at 2-2, but a plethora of goals in the last quarter of the clash, including an own goal by the Warriors’ Almer Daniels in the 87th minute resulted in a 5-3 final score.
FEMALE DOMINANCE
Paiwomak Warriors female team, led by a brace from Samantha Roberts, eased to a commanding 4-1 win over Strikers FC.
Julio Sipio opened the scoring in the 10th minute, which remained at 1-0 until the break. In the second half, Roberts scored her first goal in the 52nd minute before Fiona Francis pulled one back for Strikers in the 58th minute. Dalia Jacobs made it 3-1 in the 71st minute of play then Roberts sealed the win two minutes later.
