The Ann`s Grove parenting group kite camp was totally entertaining

THE Ann’s Grove, Clonbrook, Two Friends catchment area on the East Coast of Demerara recently celebrated their 2nd Annual Kite Camp as part of Easter celebrations. This event was held in Ann’s Grove and catered for 100 children.

Dellon Adams, Coordinator of the Ann`s Grove Parenting Association (AGPA)

This event, which was organised and coordinated by the Ann’s Grove social activist, Dellon Adams on behalf of Ann`s Grove Parenting Association (AGPA), saw maximum participation from both parents and children within the communities.

Adams told the Pepperpot Magazine that the AGPA is a movement which engages parents of the catchment area at bi-monthly meetings, with the intended objective to enhance parenting skills, provide guidance on how to access resources, aid personal development, and to provide a forum for parents to share and find solutions for life`s challenges.

“This, we believe, would eventually result in a better quality of life for families and a better community…even as parents develop new parenting skills; we felt it was also necessary to provide opportunities for parent/child interaction. Hence, while the objective of the Kite Camp is to provide a space for our children to express their creativity and develop camaraderie, it is also a forum for parent/child interaction,” she related.

The event was held in Ann`s Grove. Kite frames, kite paper, paste, twine, scissors and refreshments were provided for the children. The children were also told the Easter story.

According to Adams, while the AGPA catered for 100 children this proved insufficient as each year it gets bigger and better. “We are therefore planning for 200 children next year and persons are free to contact the coordinator, Dellon Adams, if they are desirous of contributing.

She indicated that the event was made possible because of the contributions made by a number of persons, which included Mr. Sherlock Isaacs, Clerk of the National Assembly, Ms. Genevieve Allen, Regional Chairperson, Region Four, Mr. Ashley Hinds, Mr. Charles Anderson aka COUNT OUT, Lt. Col. Raul Jerrick and Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Joycelyn Adams. Sister Eileen Dover shared the Easter story.
