A 21-year-old man was arrested by the police on Saturday morning at a hotel at Ogle, East Coast Demerara after he was found with a quantity of cocaine.

Reports are that on Saturday morning at approximately 08:45 hours, a party of policemen from the Narcotics Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters in Georgetown along with their counterparts in ‘C’ Division on the East Coast Demerara, swooped down on the Alpha Hotel at Ogle where they conducted an operation.

During the intelligence- led operation, the ranks found Ackeem Dundas, a mechanic of 120 Area ‘G’ Stratsphey Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara occupying a room at the hotel and in his possession were a number of pellets suspected to be filled with cocaine.

The pellets were confiscated and counted in his presence before he was told of an allegation of being in possession of suspected cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

The young man was then arrested and escorted to the Criminal Investigation Department(CID) where the items were tested and weighed and found to indeed be cocaine filled pellets.

In 2016 the hotel made the news after a man was killed during a shootout with police when he along with several others were found with drugs and guns at the hotel.(Leroy Smith)
