I was never paid by the government to write letters

Dear Editor,
PLEASE permit me space in your letter column to clarify a point made by Bharrat Jagdeo in a recent press conference. It pertains to the serious questions being asked about Irfaan Ali’s qualifications.

Initially, Bharrat Jagdeo was contending that a journalist was paid to fabricate the story. The Guyana Press Association rightfully saw it as another attempt at him attacking the free press. Now, Mr. Jagdeo is stating it is not a journalist but a person who was paid.

As far as I’m aware, it was my letter which was aired on Prime News about Irfaan Ali’s qualifications. As a result, it is reasonable to conclude that Mr. Jagdeo was referring to me. If that is the case, and I strongly believe so, I would humbly suggest he explicitly state who is the person he is referring to and I’ll be grateful if he can provide the evidence to support such a statement of that person being paid.

Let me make this clear. I have no links with the government. I am a well paid and respected medical consultant in the UK. I don’t need a penny from the government. What I do is out of love of country and love of poor people. That’s the reason I write. PPP agents have been making libellous statements about me on Facebook for which I have engaged my attorney. They have repeated on multiple occasions that the government is paying me to write letters. That is not true and I would wish that the government comes out and make this clear
Regards
Dr. Mark Devonish
