THIS year, the annual Mother and Daughter Pageant is taking pageantry to a whole new level with a grand live Red Carpet pre-show geared at immersing attendees in the full gala experience.

The 28th production of the pageant will be held on May 11, 2019 at the National Cultural Centre (NCC) under the theme “The Superpower of Love”. This year will see 22 mother and daughter pairs competing in the senior, middle and junior categories.

While it is normal for the pageant to commence promptly at 20:00hrs, in order to facilitate the Red Carpet event, it will begin at 18:00hrs sharp. It will feature an actual red carpet and will allow those attending to mingle with the contestants, take photos, and soak up the entire experience prior the show.

The live segment will be hosted by radio personality, Feliz Robertson, and media operative, Gordon Moseley. MovieTowne Guyana will be sponsoring the Red Carpet experience and the entertainment company is proud to be involved in its first mother and daughter pageant in Guyana since its March launching.

“When you think of MovieTowne it’s all about family. There are so many things for the family to do at MovieTowne and the Mother and Daughter pageant is the pageant where the mother and daughters will go, but it’s not all about them; it’s where the family goes to support,” Assistant Branch Manager at Multi-Cinemas Guyana, Kirly Bacchus, said.

The pageant’s other major partner is the New Nigel’s Supermarket which will be supporting the senior category. “New Nigel’s is very proud to be a part of this collaboration…we just want to show the country and the economy that we appreciate mothers,” said Marketing Personnel New Nigel’s Supermarket, Kendra Massiah.

She noted that there will be the opportunity for persons to win special prizes on the night of the pageant, should they purchase their tickets at the supermarket on Robb & Light streets.

Meanwhile, the Middle Category will be sponsored by Always and the junior category by Igloo Ice Cream and Sterling Products.

These sponsors form part of many others which have been consistently loyal to the pageant over the years. Managing and producing the pageant is Mrs. Ingrid Fung, who is one of the founders of the pageant and now produces it along with her daughter Dr. Sulan Fung-

Browne.
Dr. Fung-Browne said that the event’s theme was chosen in the spirit of projecting mothers as superheroes, as the general idea of superheroes has a global fan base. She said: “Even though these superheroes have their own strengths, if you demonstrate love, it will be the best strength ever demonstrated. So ‘the superpower of love’ is definitely the thing that we want to celebrate this year.”

The patron of the show is First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger, who has made it a habit of attending the show with her family. The 22 beauties will be revealed later in the week and, apart from the crowns, they stand to win a number of big prizes including trophies, hampers and trips to several local and overseas destinations.
The pageant’s winners last year in the senior segment were Germaine Jacques and her daughter Kia Jacques, who stole the hearts of the crowd without prior experience in pageantry.

The winners of the Junior Category, Marcia Abrams and Nomarra, ticked all the boxes of the judges’ grading criteria when they took to the stage.
Meanwhile, Middle Category winners, Shonette Vyphuis and Saniyah, were perhaps the most creative with their transformative dresses which changed from one color to the next by the end of their performance.

Tickets for the pageant on May 11, 2019 cost $3,500, $3,000 and $2,500 for the auditorium front, auditorium rear and the balcony respectively. They can be picked up at the NCC and from the locations of all other sponsors and promoters.
