SCORES of bright faces of varying ages turned out on Saaturday, as Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson conducted her annual kite distribution exercise in West and East Ruimveldt.

The areas visited were the East and West Ruimveldt Front Road, Mango Lane, Back Circle, and Genip Lane, East Ruimveldt among other areas.

An excited 12-year-old Judoriah Lloyd explained after receiving her kite: “I would be going out with my family on Easter Monday. I don’t know where as yet, but we will be going out; our families go out and picnic on that day.”

“I will be flying my kite on Monday; I am not sure what my family will be doing on that day, but I will fly my kite!” said 14-year-old Tyrel Brant.

Minister Ferguson reminded the youth, “Fly kites in open spaces.” Moreover, this is a message for the safety of everyone who would be participating in the kite flying activity on Monday.

Minister Ferguson explained that this is an annual event, and she is always overjoyed to give kites to the little ones, while reminding them what the Easter season signifies.
Earlier in the day, across town, approximately 200 children in the Campbellville Housing Scheme and surrounding communities were smiling brightly, as the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) spread Easter joy.

A team, including the Deputy Mayor of Georgetown, Alfred Mentore along with staff from the Public Relations Department visited his elected constituency to distribute kites. The exercise attracted not only children, but some grandparents as well, who came to ensure their grands were not left out.

Deputy-Mayor Mentore told the Department of Public Information (DPI), “We [M&CC] decided to conduct this distribution exercise because Easter is one of those events that many young children and families go out to picnic. So, we want to ensure the children have kites so that they can enjoy this holiday.”

Earlier this week, the deputy-mayor teamed up with Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence and National Chairman of the GYSM, Ryan Belgrave to conduct a similar exercise in the East La-Penitence and Stevedore Housing Scheme communities. (DPI)
