Woman remanded for possession of narcotics

FORTY THREE-YEAR-OLD Natasha John was remanded by Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on April 11, 2019, for having a quantity of narcotics in her possession.

Particulars of the charge alleged that, on April 9, 2019, at 131 3rd Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown, she had, in her possession, 477 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. She pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The accused, who resides at 131 3rd Street Alexander Village, was represented by Attorney-at-Law, George Thomas, who made a bail application for his client under whatever conditions the prosecution saw fit. He also noted that the narcotics were found in the general area of the yard and not solely on the defendant.

Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted to the defendant. He told the court that, on the day in question, ranks from the narcotics division went to the home of the accused, where a search was carried out in her presence. During the search the drug was found in the hallway of the upper flat of the building. John was then told of the offence and apprehended.

At the station, she told the ranks that she had bought the cannabis for her son- in- law. After listening to both the prosecutor and the defence attorney, the magistrate remanded John until her next court hearing on April 30, 2019.
