ROOPNARINE Persaud, 50, of 87 East Mittelholzer Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was on Tuesday jailed by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for 18 months and 12 months respectively, for assault and using threatening language.
The sentences will run concurrently.

Persaud, a mechanic, pleaded guilty to the charges which stated that on April 5, 2019 at Barama Line, Baramita, he used threatening language to Brahanna Charles.It was also alleged that the mechanic on April 5, 2019, at Barama Line,Baramita, North West District, unlawfully assaulted Charles.

Facts presented to the court stated that Persaud and Charles have children together and due to his constant physical abuse of the woman, she left the home nine months ago and went back to live with her mother. The accused was also convicted in 2018 for assault causing actual bodily harm to the woman.
