THE Region Two administration on Friday commissioned five multimillion-dollar roads in various locations on the Essequibo Coast. The roads will create better access for residents and farmers using it to access their farmlands.
Residents at Charity Old Housing Scheme, Devonshire Castle, Anna Regina, Lima, Good Hope and La Union are all beneficiaries of the new roads.
At the commissioning ceremonies, Regional Executive Officer, Denis Jaikarran emphasised the need for residents of the respective Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) to care and maintain the roads.
During the commissioning of Pitman Street, Darthmouth, Jaikarran said the roads were upgraded and rehabilitated due to requests by the Neighbourhood Democratic Councils (NDCs) to the Regional Democratic Council (RDC).
The Region Two administration has expended millions of dollars to ensure that residents of the five communities are provided better roads.
The residents were very happy for the development works. The Devonshire Castle access dam was upgraded from a mud dam to a crusher run road.
The Charity Old Housing Scheme Road was upgraded at a cost of $12,131,000 by V and S Engineering; the upgrading of the road at GTT Street, Good Hope costs some $11,042,000; while the upgrading of the La Union Road leading to the cremation site was done to the tune of $9, 287,100.
