Dear Editor,
AS many by now may know, I am no supporter of the PPP party that is now being managed by a one-man dictator, but I respect and honour the work of its founder, Dr Cheddi Jagan.
Editor, I would like for it to be noted that I am not comparing our great leaders in Guyana, but I am giving respect where respect is due and base my letter on Dr Jagan.
Dr Jagan was a great man who always respected the views of others, no matter what. He was a liked man in the entire country, irrespective of race, religion, political affiliation, status, etc. He was a man of the people.
I can recall when Dr Jagan died and the procession was on the East Coast of Demerara heading to Albion, Berbice, the residents of Buxton and I think that is the only village that demanded and ensured that the vehicle that was carrying the body of Dr Jagan stop for them to pay their last respects to this great leader.
The works of Cheddi Jagan is tremendous and unmatchable. He worked for every class and race in this country and was a man for the people. He always preaches unity and peace for all, while some may have their own reservations, that’s theirs and I don’t want to dispute what they think.
Since the death of Dr. Jagan, we have seen less involvement of Cheddi Jagan’s family members in PPP. In fact, Dr Cheddi Jagan Jr. was trying to pull the party forward by taking the stage during the PPP campaigns soon after his father died, but that quickly came to an end because of the lion king who was rising in the party.
Over the years since the death of Dr Jagan, the PPP will congregate in the month of March at Babu Jaan on the Corentyne to what they said was to pay respects to the founder of the party.
Over those very years, we also saw less and less involvement of Dr Jagan’s children and “grands.” In fact, I think the daughter of Cheddi had said her heart out to the PPP and since then, the dictator doesn’t seem to want her or Joey on stage.
Only recently, we saw the non-attendance of the Jagans’ children and “grands” at the PPP’s memorial at Babu Jaan that was held on 10th March, 2019. And wait, they are not the only ones, but several top-ranking PPP executives did not show up, including former President Ramotar.
Is there a reason for that? Well, they have to know because I do believe that they recognised that Cheddi Jagan’s legacy was “CHASED OUT” from the PPP by this very dictator; and he ensures that the memorial becomes a “cuss out” remembrance to degrade the legacy of Cheddi.
So, my Guyanese brothers and sisters, it isn’t by mistake that the dictator uses the words “CHASE THEM OUT,” because he has been “chasing out” the legacy of Dr Jagan in the PPP, along with all hard-working members who have worked to develop that party.
He uses that word because he recently “CHASED OUT” some of the talented people from the presidential candidacy bid: Dr Frank Anthony, Priya Manickchand, Dr Vindhya Persaud and Anil Nandlall, for a man who allegedly faked his qualifications.
So the dictator is “CHASING OUT” all who do not listen to him in the party and soon he may also “CHASE OUT” the PPP executives because he has been “CHASING THEM OUT” from his press conferences.
So it is no surprise that this man, who is a dictator within the PPP, and is the general-secretary and leader of the party uses those words to the party supporters. He wants everyone to be like him, to chase out people.
Oh, by the way, this is the very man who “CHASED OUT” from his life and State House, the woman he claimed to have married legally.
