On this occasion of International Women’s Day 2019, the time is ripe for us to reflect on the progress women have made and look towards eliminating barriers to equality, Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes said.
Themed #BalanceforBetter, Broomes said in a short message to mark the occasion that “there is a clear call to action to ensure there is gender balance not just in Guyana, but globally.”
She said the challenges women face in Guyana are many, particularly in the mining sector to which “I am familiar.” However, Minister Broomes said despite these challenges, it is important for all Guyanese to reflect on the achievements of our womenfolk. “We have come a long way and much more is to be achieved. We must eliminate discrimination and reduce the gaps which exist between men and women. I salute all women particularly those in the mining sector.”
Happy International Women’s Day
