DESPITE the inclement weather, Reliance Hustlers made hay while the sun briefly shone. While the other fixtures were rained out, play was possible at the Reliance ground between Reliance Hustlers and Golden Fleece on Sunday in the Central Essequibo-sponsored T20 competition.

Braving the weather and having the match reduced to a 10 overs affair, Reliance Hustlers were in a hurry as former Essequibo senior inter-county batsman, Narendra Mandolall, was in vintage mood. He counted 10 massive sixes and 8 exquisite fours on his way to a majestic unbeaten 109 from just 42 deliveries.

The elegant left-hander’s delightful touch brightened an otherwise dampened day including the fortunes of his hapless opponents. A brisk 31 (3x4s and 2x6s) from opener Mark Austin initially led the onslaught as Reliance Hustlers raced to 178-3 from their allotted overs.

In their turn at the crease, Golden Fleece struggled for fluency and was restricted to 67-4 from their 10 overs with Richard Ramcharran 18 (3x4s) and Trevor Chan 15 (2x4s) reaching double figures. Off-spinner Trevis Simon with 2-12 from 2 overs bowled the Hustlers to a commanding 111 run victory.

The competition will continue this Sunday with matches slated for the Reliance, Affiance Number 1 and Imam Bacchus grounds, as 10 teams participate in the round-robin tournament.
