Escaping bandit shoots accomplice

A 22-year-old resident of Leopold Street, Week-en-Rust, Georgetown, was robbed of his gold chain and one of the robbers was accidentally shot by his accomplice in the vicinity of Mandela Avenue and the Shopping Plaza bridge on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that on Monday, the victim was in the shop purchasing items when the robbers attacked him with a firearm and demanded his gold chain.

One of the bandits then snatched the chain off the man’s neck and ran out of the outlet while public-spirited citizens gave chase. During the chase, one of the robbers fired a warning shot in their direction that hit his accomplice in the shoulder.

The armed robber then mounted his motorcycle and escaped, leaving his injured partner behind.

The injured bandit, of South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown, was apprehended by citizens and handed over to police. He was taken to the hospital pending charges as investigations continue.
