King, Gaffor cop Best Lifter titles at GAPLF Novices/Juniors

– Oudit, Indarjit, Goukaran and Mohamed set new records

ONCE again, the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) Novices/Juniors Championships were a success with new stars shining, the likes of Shelly Ann Gomes, Fawaz Rampertab, Jermy Indarjit, Akram Gaffor and Tremel King, all winning their respective categories while records also tumbled at the hands of Indarjit, guest lifter Lisa Oudit, Ramzan Mohamed and Akshay Goukaran.

Competing in the Female Open Classic 72Kg category, Gomes (Buddy’s Gym athlete) copped the Best Lifter Novice Award with a best squat of 100kg, a bench press of 50kg and a deadlift of 137.5kg (total weight 287.5kg), her Wilks points was 287.960.
Meanwhile, Nela Gomes (Female Equipped 63Kg) of Total Fitness Gym, turned in a good performance, squatting 97.5kg, bench pressing 40kg and deadlifting 110kg (total weight 247.5kg).

Fawaz Rampertab was adjudged the overall Best Junior Lifter Equipped. Competing in the Male Junior 74kg category, he squatted 225 kg, bench pressed 122.5kg and deadlifted 237.5kg, with a total weight of 585kg and 433.08 Wilks points to claim that accolade.
Jermy Indarjit of Goodlife Fitness competed in the Male Sub Junior Classic 66Kg category and lifted his way to the best Sub Junior Lifter title. Indarjit squatted 162.5kg, bench pressed 80kg and deadlifted 205kg with a total weight of 447.5kg lifted.

His best squat of 135kg, bench press of 85kg and deadlift of 160 kg (total weight 380kg) and wilks points total of 391.172 was enough to land him the title.

Meanwhile, Space Gym’s Tremel King landed the Best Lifter (Classic/Unequipped) trophy. Lifting in the 93kg Unequipped category, King squatted 230kg, bench pressed 150kg and deadlifted 257.5kg, his total weight lifted was 637.5kg while his Wilks points total was 400.796.

Overall, the event, dubbed the birthplace of powerlifting future, was a success with a full house in attendance and over 30 athletes competing at this year’s Novices/Juniors Championship, making it the GAPLF’s most well attended competition in recent years.
