Gov’t rolling out Budget 2019

– 36 multi-million-dollar contracts awarded

MINISTER of State Joseph Harmon said the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Government has initiated the implementation of the programmes and projects outlined in Budget 2019. The $300.7B budget, which was passed in the National Assembly last November, represents a 12.6 per cent increase compared to the 2018 budget.

The opposition – People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C), has been calling on the government to freeze all projects in light of the vote of no-confidence against the government but Harmon, on Friday, said the Constitution is clear. Article 106 (7) of the Constitution says “notwithstanding its defeat, the government shall remain in office and shall hold elections in three months, or such longer period as the National Assembly shall by resolution supported by not less than two-thirds of the votes of all the elected members of the National Assembly determine, and shall resign after the President takes the oath of office following the election.”

The minister of State is calling on all public servants to carry out their functions in accordance with established rules and principles. “There are some statements that are going around that are seeking to advise public servants not to do this and not to do that, it is an error if you are to accept that kind of advice. The government’s programme continues and it is in the interest of all that the programme is implemented,” Minister Harmon said.
