Essequibo man dies suddenly while in police custody

THE news was indeed shocking for the Singh’s family after they found out that a relative mysteriously died at the Anna Regina Enquiries Office.

Dead is 46-year-old Om Singh of Danielstown Village, Essequibo Coast. His 33-year-old wife is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
The now deceased Singh was taken into police custody on January 20 at around 23:25 hours. He was arrested for verbally abusing his wife. Information revealed that the couple was having a heated argument when a neighbour made a report.

Police then arrested Singh and during questioning, he allegedly collapsed. He was then taken to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. There were no marks of violence about his body his body. The deceased was identified by his sister Indra Praboonauth and brother Suresh Praboonauth. The brother, who is still in a state of shock, told the Guyana Chronicle that his brother’s death was sudden.

“I just didn’t expected [this], my brother [was] healthy, he was in high spirit, when we saw him he pee his pants, we are really clueless but we are baffled at his sudden death,” Praboonauth said. Family members are eagerly awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination to determine the real cause of Singh’s death.
