Head teacher of Victoria Primary School, Althea Russell receives the donation from Managing Director of Comfort Sleep, Dennis Charran

Several students of the Victoria Primary School who faced economic challenges at home received donations of mattresses, on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.The donation was made by Comfort Sleep, in collaboration with Rawle’s Communication Agency. The latter had also effected repairs to the school’s library.

At a simple handing over ceremony of the mattresses, Director of Comfort Sleep, Dennis Charran, told the school’s headmistress, Althea Russell, that he was pleased to be making the contribution. He stated that it would aid in the educational development of the young pupils and urged the head teacher and parents of the pupils to continue to play an important role in each child’s life.

Charran said that there was no excuse for adults and appointed leaders to not play a meaningful role in ensuring that every child receives a sound education.
“Too many times persons use economics and hardships as [an] excuse for them not playing their role effectively in their children’s life and I would like to urge you that, irrespective of how difficult things are, your children can continue their education and even excel because they have a reason that motivates them to do well,” Charran said. “In years to come they can look back with satisfaction that they were able to escape the poverty and or hardships that they were faced with.”

The popular businessman said that giving back, especially to children, was something he would never refuse to do as he believed that providing support to the nation’s children would boost the country’s educational development.

“This company will continue to support projects and programmes in effective ways as we firmly believe that it serves towards further [developing and] enhancing our society,” Charran promised.

The parents of the students were ecstatic with the donation, with several promising to care the mattresses.
One parent referred to the donation as a “God send” stating that; as a single mother, there are many difficulties that she is confronted with daily.

“It’s a long time I was asking myself as to when I would be able to purchase a proper mattress for these kids, but thank God I received one today and I can tell you that it will be the new bed for five of my children because I needed something like this,” she said emotionally.

Meanwhile, the headteacher expressed her appreciation stating that the mattresses will go a far way. She added that she was very thankful for the efforts of the company and other persons who played an important role in securing the donation.

One pupil gearing up to write the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) this year, thanked Charran saying: “We are really happy. My brothers and I will certainly have a bed that we can sleep upon now.”
