Thompson opens season with gold medal finish in the USA

BRENESSA Thompson, one of Guyana’s most talented young sprinters got off to a dream start in her 2019 season with gold and bronze medal finishes respectively at the Ted Nelson Invitational that was hosted at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, Texas, by her college, Texas A&M.

Hosted last Saturday, the meet attracted eight teams including Abilene Christian, Baylor, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas State, UT Arlington, and UT-San Antonio.
In the 60m dash, Thompson had no competition as she set the track alight in 7.47 seconds to cop gold. Coming in on her heels was Baylor University’s sophomore Sydney Washington while Thompson’s teammate Amber Ivy was third.

In the 200m Thompson managed a third-place finish just behind her teammate Diamond Spaulding, who clocked 23.69 seconds, just one hundredth of a second faster than the Guyanese.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Flannel won the race comfortably in 23.46 seconds to cop gold.
