SENIOR Magistrate Leron Daly, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Monday, remanded a 30-year-old pork knocker on two firearm-related charges.

Kevin Richardson of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD), a father of five, denied the charges which alleged that, on January 11, 2019, at Arau Mountain Top, Cuyuni River, he had a 9mm pistol in his possession.

Richardson further denied that, on the same day and at the same location, he had 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

His attorney, Damien DaSliva, during an application for bail, told the court that his client was ‘nabbed’ by four villagers from the Arau Mountain top. He further explained that one of the villagers was armed with the 9mm firearm which he brandished at Richardson, resulting in a fight.

The attorney argued that the villagers managed to overpower his client and took him to the police station where they ‘pinned’ the firearm on him.

However, the police facts differed as prosecutor Sanj Singh said that Richardson was seen acting in a suspicious manner and was searched by four villagers while he was walking through the mountain top.

Singh contended that Richardson was found with the firearm and was taken to the police station where he was arrested.

Magistrate Daly remanded Richardson to prison and adjourned the matter until January 21, 2019.
